Pilbara Port Authority issued Marine Notice about requirement of pilot ladder and its associate equipment.
From 1 May 2023, all vessels calling the Port of Port Hedland must comply with the following
requirements.
- Pilot ladders must not be used for pilot transfers beyond 30 months from the date
received on board. - To use a pilot ladder beyond 30 months from the date received on board, the ladder
must pass a ladder and step attachment strength test as per ISO - 799-1. - Pilot ladder repairs and testing must be carried out by the manufacturer or at a
facility approved by the manufacturer, the vessel’s Flag State or Classification
Society. - Man ropes must not be used for pilot transfer beyond 30 months from the date
received on board or beyond 12 months from the date of first use, whichever is
earlier.

Pilbara Port Authority issued Marine Notice 12/23(P) which supersedes the privious one.
Major changes are:
・Maximum permissible age of pilot ladders – 30 months from the date of manufacture:
Unless the ladder has been subjected to the ladder and step attachment strength test (as
prescribed in ISO 799-1:2019).
・Maximum permissible age of the man ropes – 12 months from the date of manufacture
(not from the date of first use):
