EU council agreed to include maritime shipping emissions within the scope of the EU-ETS which is EU emission trading system.
After Jan. 2024, ships of 5,000 GT or above which arrive and/or depart EU ports shall purchase suitable volume of allowances along with their emissions and surrender it.
Please note that management companies and/or owners are the one who is required to comply with this regulation. If they are found to have violated the rules, measures such as publication of the company's name, collection of fines, and a ban on entry into EU ports will be imposed.
