India Directorate General of Shipping (DGS) issued Merchant Shipping Notice No. 02 of 2025 on 12th Feb. 2025.
The summary of this notice is following:
Date of issued:12th Feb. 2025
Purpose:Enhancement of seafarer's welfare and vessel's safety and security.
Applicable ships:Indian flag ships and foreign flag ships trading in Indian Coast under SPL.
Requirement:Equip proper number /system of CCTV on vessel considering vessels size, type etc.
Please be noted
It is only recommendation of this requirement for foreign flag vessels. Based on our information gathering, there have been no reports of foreign-flagged vessels encountering issues or receiving advisories from Port Authorities after this Notice was issued, because of no-equipment of CCTV.
Please note that even foreign-flagged vessels engaged in coastal trade under SPL (so-called cabotage) are required to install CCTV. Shipowners need to consider this when receiving requests for Indian cabotage from charterers.
