BIMCO reminds members to ensure their vessels comply with Flighted Spongy Moth Complex (FSMC) regulations when visiting countries such as Argentina, Australia, Canada, Chile, New Zealand, and the US. The FSMC season has started, and ships must be in full compliance with the regulations issued by these countries.
Key Points:
- Certification Requirement: Ships that have called at a port in a regulated FSMC area during the specified risk period of the current or previous year are considered high FSMC risk. These ships must obtain a proper FSMC-free certificate at the last port visited in the high-risk area.
- Regulation Differences: Each country has specific requirements for FSMC regulations. For example, Australia targets ships that have visited certain ports in Eastern Russia during specific periods, while New Zealand targets ships that have visited FSMC regulated areas in the last 12 months.
- Compliance: Check each country’s regulations thoroughly and double-check with the port agent before arriving to avoid delays.
