Recently some terminals have installed vacuum type automated mooring system. This system is sometimes called 'CAVOTEC' because of its maker's name.
The system is mainly installed at Europe side for passenger ships and Ro/Ro, some of them are installed for cargo ships.

Ships requirement
Basically it is required for ships to have flat hull without dent nor holes. It means if ship's hull have rust, biofouling and/or dent by tug pushing etc., port may reject the ship's berthing because the system might not keep mooring the ship as expected.
Please be noted that this system is designed to fit each berth conditions, required ship's hull condition is also different by each berth.
Please find ship's requirement of Port Hedland for your reference.
