Supplementation
SOLAS Convention Chapter V Regulation 23 regulate pilot ladder arrangement, and there is no provision in the text of the SOLAS Convention regarding the expiration date of the Pilot Ladder.
On the other hand, the SOLAS Convention states that ISO 799:2004 (now updated to ISO 799:2019) should be referenced, and ISO 799:2019 /10. Maintenance states that the Pilot Ladder shall be subjected to strength tests at intervals not exceeding 30 months.
It is likely that this ISO 799:2019 is the basis for many Australian ports requiring Pilot Ladder to be used for 30 months and strength tests to be conducted if the service life of the Pilot Ladder exceeds 30 months.
ISO 799:2019 is attached for your reference.
