Qiongzhou Strait which is also called as Hainan Strait, locates between Hainan Island and Mainland China. There are some regulations and notes for passing this Strait, we'd like to introduce following.
<Important>
We cannot find regulations/circulars in English language about Qiongzhou Strait which is issued by authority. We recommend to ask latest regulations and information from local agent etc., before ships transit this strait.
<Regulations>
We confirmed below regulations (as of July 2022)
- Ships are required transit permission from Qiongzhou Strait Authority. Usually this permission is obtained through local agent.
- Ships are required permission from Qiongzhou Strait Authority for using Radars while transit. (as long as our experience, we do not know the case of prohibit using radar)
- Speed restriction
- Ships position reporting system(https://www.piclub.or.jp/en/news/35152)
- China Emission Control Area, fuel oil sulphur content less than 0.1% (https://www.ukpandi.com/news-and-resources/articles/2022/new-sulphur-requirements-applicable-from-1-jan-2022-in-chinese-and-south-korean-waters/)
- Draft restriction is 14.5m. In case ships draft is over 13.5m, ships are required to submit Statement to Qiongzhou VTS.
