[3] Important points for ship management & operation.
[1] RightShip Safety Score
The RightShip Safety Score officially launched in 2021 as the successor to ex-RightShip Qi Risk Rating.
RightShip uses their own platform to assess ships and the vessel is rated by the Safety Score model of 1 ~ 5. Safety Score 5 is the highest, Safety Score 5 out of 5 means that the ship is rated as unlikely to cause an accident in the future and also the one which are working towards best practice in safe operations..
Almost all bulk carriers on the market are evaluated by RightShip criteria within their platform, and a ship's safety score is disclosed to RightShip members, whether the owner likes it or not.
Ship evaluation criteria on RightShip platform include Vessel incident performance, Performance of the DOC holders (Ship Managers), Vessel PSC deficiency performance, Vessel PSC detention performance, Performance of vessel’s Flag Performance of vessel’s Class, etc.
Ship evaluation criteria on RightShip platform can be found on RightShip’s website.

Many Shippers and charterers refer to this Safety Score before fixing a particular ship for Specific Voyage, and if it is lower than 3, it may hinder the nomination, so in recent years ship-owners are being asked to maintain a Safety Score of 3.
[2] RightShip Vetting
RightShip Vetting is one of the ship vetting services by RightShip. This is not the same as RightShip Safety Score. It is a vessel screening for a nominated vessel, as per request of customers who have a Vetting service contract with RightShip (including BHP, Vale, Cargill and Rio Tinto).
The vessel's screening results are based on RightShip's vetting criteria, such as PSC inspection results, detention, Vessel incident/accident records, age, Performance of Management Company, flag, and class records, etc., and the result is informed to the customer, if needed.
As opposed to the Safety Score, screening results are not published to all RightShip members.
The Vetting evaluation standard (Dry Bulk Standard Vetting Criteria) has been revised and will be effective on June 30, 2021.
The RightShip Vetting evaluation criteria can be accessed on the RighShip website.
[3] Important points for ship management and operation.
Evaluation of the Ship management company (DOC Holder), accident history, and PSC inspection history are the three major factors that determine the Safety Score of the vessel.
In spite of a clean accident history and PSC inspection history, a low evaluation of the Ship management company's (DOC Holder) performance will affect the safety score of the vessel. Accident history affects Safety Score for 60 months and PSC inspection history affects Safety Score for 24 months.
Safety Score is not easy to recover in a short period of time, but it is important that Ship manager must conduct an appropriate root cause analysis, corrective and preventive actions with regard to any accidents or PSC deficiencies and report them to RightShip as soon as possible to close the case as fast as possible.
